Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom was roundly mocked on Wednesday after he announced plans for a podcast while his state struggles with crime, homelessness, and more.

I’m launching a NEW PODCAST. We need to change the conversation. I’m talking directly with people I disagree with, people I look up to, and you — the listeners,” Newsom captioned a video posted on X.”

“Egg prices? Tariffs? DOGE? We’re tackling all your big questions,” he added, noting in the video that he planned to speak with some of the “biggest leaders and architects in the MAGA [Make America Great Again] movement.”

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was one of many others on social media who pointed out that the governor already had a job to do rather than talk on a podcast to fix his reputation.

“Let’s start with why did you throw a party for yourself at the French Laundry with no masks on in the middle of COVID, when California had just about the strictest COVID regs in the country and thousands of small businesses were going outta business because of said policies?” Portnoy wrote.

One podcast host wrote, “Ok, @GavinNewsom, want to have some guests who disagree with you on your new podcast? I’ll gladly come on and explain how you are an evil devil worshipping lizard person who uses aborted fetuses as hair gel. Call me.”

Another conservative host added, “The more I think about this the angrier I get. A governor shouldn’t need a podcast to communicate with his constituents. This is LITERALLY YOUR JOB EVERY DAY. If you need a podcast, you’re failing. SPOILER ALERT: you’re failing.”

Several others suggested Newsom should “try governing California first,” especially while the state faces problems like rebuilding after the wildfires in Los Angeles, the rising crime, and homelessness, amid massive exodus from people leaving the state for a better life.

“Your state is literally in shambles, homelessness is a massive problem, communities are still just ash and you think now is the good time to launch a … podcast?” one person wrote.

Another person added, “I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again…not everyone needs a podcast. Please focus on fixing your liberal hellhole of a state.”
