President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday night that he has selected former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell to serve as his Presidential Envoy for Special Missions.
Grenell, a favorite among Trump’s most diehard supporters, served during his first term in office as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany and subsequently as the head of ODNI. He also served as Trump’s Presidential Envoy for Kosovo-Serbia Negotiations.
“Ric will work in some of the hottest spots around the World, including Venezuela and North Korea,” Trump said in a statement.
“Previously, he spent eight years inside the United Nations Security Council, working with North Korea, and developments in numerous other Countries,” Trump said. “Ric will continue to fight for Peace through Strength, and always put AMERICA FIRST.”
Grenell earned his B.A. from Evangel College and his M.P.A from Harvard.

The 58-year-old cancer survivor is well liked among Republicans because of his pugilistic style of politics in which he ruthlessly seeks to advance Trump’s agenda.
However, foreign nations, in particular Germany, were apparently not fans of his blunt style as he pushed them outside of their comfort zone to advance the U.S.’s interests.
“Richard Grenell is a superstar,” Trump said in 2020 when speaking of the job Grenell did in his administration. “He had guts, he had courage to do what he did. Richard Grenell has done one of the best jobs I’ve ever seen.”
