President Donald Trump’s inauguration speech on Monday emphasized renewed American strength and prosperity, promising that the country’s “golden age” begins now.

Trump was sworn into office as the 47th president of the United States just after noon on Monday, beginning his second term as president after an overwhelming electoral victory and stunning political comeback that included dozens of felony convictions, a federal raid on his home, and a would-be assassin’s bullet striking his ear.

“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump said as he delivered his remarks moments after taking the oath of office.

“From this day forward our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,” Trump said. “We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer. During every single day of the Trump administration, I will very simply put America first.”

The nation’s new president promised that America would reclaim her sovereignty, restore her safety, and rebalance the scales of justice.

“The vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end,” Trump said, a reference to the Biden administration’s apparent targeting of its political enemies.

The second Trump administration’s top priority will be to create a “proud, prosperous, and free” nation, Trump said.

“America will soon be greater, stronger, and far more exceptional than ever before,” he said. “I return to the presidency confident and optimistic that we are at the start of a thrilling new era of national success.”

Trump declared that “sunlight is pouring over the entire world” as he begins his new term.

However, the president also warned that America must be “honest” about the serious challenges the country faces.

The federal government faces a “crisis of trust,” he said.

“For many years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens while the pillars of our society lay broken and seemingly in complete disrepair,” Trump said. “We now have a government that cannot manage even a simple crisis at home while at the same time stumbling into a continuing catalog of catastrophic events abroad.”

Trump listed off several major issues he campaigned on, accusing the government of failing to protect Americans while allowing in dangerous illegal migrants, being unable to deliver “basic services” to places like North Carolina ravaged by natural disaster, and indoctrination at public schools, where he said children are taught to “be ashamed of themselves” and “hate our country.”

“All of this will change starting today and will change very quickly,” Trump said. “My recent election is a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal and all of these many betrayals that have taken place and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed their freedom.”

“From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” the president promised.
