“The View” host Sunny Hostin asked President Joe Biden on Wednesday what advice he had given to Vice President Kamala Harris, now his party’s de facto presidential nominee, about how to successfully defeat former President Donald Trump in November.

Hostin led with the fact that Biden was able to beat Trump in 2020 but left out that he had been losing badly in the 2024 polls before he was forced out by powerful members of his own party in late July.

“Mr. President, the vice president has been working hard,” Hostin began, raving about the crowds that had been showing up at rallies for Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz (D-MN), in recent weeks. “Crowds are a thing for some people.”

Hostin added that there did seem to be a lot of momentum behind Harris, adding, “As the only person who has ever beaten Trump, what advice have you given the vice president about how to win?”

“Be herself,” Biden replied. “Look, she is smart as hell. Number one. She’s tough. She was a first-rate prosecutor, she was a United States Senator of significant consequence.”

“And as vice president, there wasn’t a single thing that I did that she couldn’t do,” he added. “And so I was able to delegate her responsibility on everything from foreign policy to domestic policy.”

Harris may not appreciate Biden’s accolades, however, as she has spent most of her time since becoming the candidate trying to distance herself from the White House and paint herself as a candidate who represents change. Biden’s repeated efforts to “help” her only tie her more closely to the policies that she appears to be trying to escape at all costs.
