President Donald Trump said early Tuesday morning that he wants “a real end” to the conflict between Israel and Iran, adding that a mere ceasefire isn’t enough.
Trump was asked about the ongoing fight in the Middle East on Air Force One as he returned to Washington, D.C., from the G7 Conference in Canada. Trump left the conference early on Monday over developments in the conflict as Israel continued to defend its citizens from Iranian missile barrages.
“What specifically is better than a ceasefire? What are you looking for here?” a reporter asked Trump.
“A real end, not a ceasefire,” the president replied. “An end.”
“So something that will be permanent?”
“Yeah, or giving up entirely. That’s okay too,” Trump added. “A complete give-up. That’s possible.”

The president continued to urge Iran to seek out a deal on Monday and told people to “immediately evacuate Tehran!”
“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign,” said Trump on Truth Social. “What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
Trump suggested earlier on Monday that Iran had reached out to negotiate an end to the conflict. Trump had imposed a 60-day deadline for Iran to negotiate a nuclear agreement with the United States that had elapsed before Israel launched its attack last week.
“They’d like to talk, but they should have done that before,” the president told reporters at the G7 summit. “I had 60 days, and they had 60 days. On the 61st day, I said, ‘We don’t have a deal.’ They have to make a deal, and it’s painful for both parties. But I’d say Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk, and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”
Israel continues to exert air dominance over Iran, targeting nuclear facilities, military leaders, and Iranian state media. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the conflict would end if Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were killed.
“We’ve had half a century of conflict spread by this regime that terrorizes everyone in the Middle East; has bombed the Aramco oil fields in Saudi Arabia; is spreading terrorism and subversion and sabotage everywhere,” Netanyahu said in an interview with ABC News. “The ‘forever war’ is what Iran wants, and they’re bringing us to the brink of nuclear war. In fact, what Israel is doing is preventing this, bringing an end to this aggression, and we can only do so by standing up to the forces of evil.”
