First lady Melania Trump announced plans for an Easter celebration at the White House, carrying on a tradition dating back to 1878, started by President Rutherford B. Hayes.

“First Lady Melania Trump is pleased to announce initial details for the 147th White House Easter Egg Roll,” according to a press release from the Office of the First Lady. “The Easter Egg Roll will take place on Monday, April 21, 2025, on the South Lawn of the White House. Families with children 13 years old and younger are invited to join the President, First Lady, White House staff, and their families for a day of festivities.”

“The White House Easter Egg Roll is a timeless White House tradition, dating back to 1878 during the Presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes,” it added. “The President and First Lady look forward to continuing this entertaining tradition and making it a truly memorable experience for all.”

“This year’s official White House Easter Egg Roll commemorative eggs will be available to the general public,” it continued. “More information will be available soon by visiting the White House website for the Easter Egg Roll.”

Some of the day’s festivities will include arts and crafts, live entertainment, storytelling, along with the Easter Egg Roll and Hunt, per the website.

“Tickets are free and will be available to the public through an online lottery starting Tuesday, March 4, 2025, and closing on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 12:00 PM ET,” the release noted. Those interested in attending can find more information about the lottery here.

As in the past, the White House is looking for volunteers for the Easter Egg Roll through an online application. For more information you can check it out here.

Earlier this month, the first lady announced the reopening of the White House to the public for tours and Tuesday, President Trump surprised the first White House tour group of his second presidency.

In a video on YouTube from The Daily Wire, Trump walked around behind a room divider in an underground hallway and told the cheering group that he wanted to welcome them to the exciting tour.

“Is everybody having a good time?” the president asked, and the group replied, “Yes.”

“But just have a good time … you are getting an extra special tour because you are the first one of the year,” he added. “An extra special tour, especially for this guy right here (as Trump pointed to one person in the front row.)”
