White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday that President Joe Biden was being “truthful” with the American people when it came to the topic of pardoning his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden.

Jean-Pierre made the remarks during a press gaggle, in which video cameras are not present, after she was asked about the highly controversial pardon that covered every crime Hunter Biden was convicted of or may have committed over an 11-year span.

“One of the things that the president always believes is to be truthful to the American people,” she claimed, despite Biden repeatedly stating on the record that he would not pardon his son. “That is something that he always truly believes.”

Jean-Pierre pointed to where Biden said in his statement that he has always followed the principle “just tell the American people the truth.”

“Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further,” Biden said. “I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.”

She claimed that Biden just arrived at the decision this weekend, despite contrary reporting.

NBC News reported that Biden had secretly discussed pardoning his son ever since he was convicted of federal gun charges in June and that the plan to “publicly say he would not pardon his son even though doing so remained on the table.”

Jean-Pierre was further pressed by reporters about Biden saying that his Justice Department was effectively broken and “infected” with politics.

“He believes in the Justice Department,” Jean-Pierre claimed. “This is his words. He said this. This is the president saying this.”

When asked “how deep is the rot” within the DOJ and “how many selective prosecutions” there are in the department, she responded: “What I can speak to is this particular case, which is Hunter Biden, who has the last name of the president, who, I just said, there were political opponents who were very clear and very vocal about going after his son.”
