The hosts of ABC’s “The View” were at their wits’ end on Monday as they discussed the Republican-led Continuing Resolution that passed on Friday, ensuring that the federal government would be funded until September, complaining that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had some explaining to do.
Cohost Whoopi Goldberg led the charge, saying that she planned to have a heart-to-heart with Schumer when he comes to the set for a Tuesday appearance on the midday talk show.
“So Senator Schumer is going to be here tomorrow, so we’ll have – yeah — so we’ll have a lot to talk about,” Goldberg said, prompting a few laughs from the audience.

Cohost Sara Haines defended Schumer, arguing that allowing the government to shut down would likely have ultimately hurt Democrats.
“I think that he had two awful options, and this was the one that he chose, and I actually agree. A government shutdown never looks good on the party that seems to be the one that’s asking for it,” Haines said, adding that by allowing a shutdown and inviting that criticism, Democrats would be “taking the target off their back, Trump and Elon Musk, and putting it all on the Democrats” instead.

Ana Navarro clashes with Haines and starts yelling at her:
HAINES: This is taking off all the guardrails and let them do whatever the hell they want.

Cohost Ana Navarro objected immediately, telling Haines, “I love you but I don’t buy that explanation from you.”
“This is just take off all the guardrails and let them do whatever the hell they want,” Haines said.
“I think that when the Democratic base is hearing Chuck Schumer say, ‘The reason that I’m going to support this funding bill is because if not it’s going to give Trump and Elon the power to fire federal workers and to get rid of departments,” Navarro said, adding, “They’re already doing that! So it’s, like, me saying, okay, you know what? I’m going to get out of the shower but I’m not going to go outside and stand in the rain because I’m already wet. They’re already soaking wet! They’re already fired!”
“Okay so you don’t care about —” Haines objected.
“It doesn’t matter what I care about it’s already happening!” Navarro shot back.
Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin also said it was wise for Schumer to prevent a government shutdown, but argued that the Democrats’ messaging had not been the best.

Sunny Hostin wants the government shutdown because the Republican would be responsible somehow:

Cohost Sunny Hostin sided with Navarro, adding, “I think what you fight on matters too, and I think, again, that this was a fight that needed to happen, and it didn’t happen because of Chuck Schumer. If you think about it, Republicans would have had to own that government shutdown.”
Hostin claimed that because Republicans have slim majorities in the House and the Senate — even though it was only Democrats who could have forced or prevented a shutdown — they would have shouldered the blame for any ensuing shutdown.
