Google recognized the renamed Gulf of America on its maps system on Monday, a day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring “Gulf of America Day” on February 9.

The tech giant had signaled its plans to update its maps application in line with the president’s day one executive order declaring the former Gulf of Mexico to be renamed the Gulf of America. The name change was reflected in Google’s map app and site on Monday.

Trump signed an order recognizing February 9 as “Gulf of America Day” on Sunday as he was flying over the gulf in Air Force One on the way to attend Super Bowl LIX.

“Even bigger than the Super Bowl, this is a big thing,” Trump said. As Trump was preparing to sign the order on board Air Force One, the pilot introduced the Gulf of America over the intercom. The pilot marked the first time Air Force One had flown over the gulf since Trump had rechristened it for the United States of America.

“Today, I am making my first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming,” Trump’s executive order states. “As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America.”

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim February 9, 2025, as Gulf of America Day,” it says.

Trump officially named the Gulf of America via executive order on his first day in office on January 20.
