Several Daily Wire hosts along with co-founder Jeremy Boreing will react live on “Backstage” Thursday night as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump face off in a highly anticipated presidential debate.

Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Andrew Klavan, Michael Knowles, and Boreing will provide analysis during a live “Backstage” episode, which will start streaming at 8:30 p.m. EST.

CNN is hosting the debate, which is expected to begin at 9:00 p.m. EST and last 90 minutes. “State of the Union” anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash have been selected as moderators and will sit directly across from the candidates.

In what critics say is an attempt to run cover for a struggling President Biden, CNN has announced a number of stipulations to control the debate environment, including having no audience in the television studio and muting microphones to prevent interruptions. A pair of green lights on each candidate’s podium will turn on whenever his microphone is turned on, signaling that it is that person’s turn to speak.

When the debate was first agreed to, Knowles said that Biden did not want to debate in front of an audience because he “[didn’t] want to get booed off the stage.”

In the days leading up to the debate, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro suggested that Trump would need to focus on highlighting Biden’s failures as president if he wanted to win. He said that Trump should emphasize that Biden is a liar, tyrannical in his abuse of the executive office, and incompetent as a leader.

“In reality, what Trump needs to be is cool, calm, collected, and meticulous in his attack on Biden’s presidency,” Shapiro said. “That’s because if the debate is a referendum on Biden’s presidency, Joe Biden loses. If this is a referendum on Trump’s character and his foibles, then Donald Trump loses.”

Earlier this week, Shapiro told Fox News host Dana Perino that the debate had largely been structured to disadvantage Trump.

“A lot of the factors are stacked against Trump,” he said. “He’s really going to have to kind of go within himself and perform in a way that he really has not had to perform in a debate before.”

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh has noted that the expectations for Biden will be very low because of his well-documented history of verbal fumbles and awkward public interactions.

“The fact that Biden has the mental acuity of an asparagus does present a challenge for Trump tonight. The expectations are so low for Biden that if he manages to hold his own, he automatically wins,” Walsh said. “If the debate is a tie, Biden wins. It’s like playing one-on-one basketball against a guy with no legs. If he gets even one basket, he wins, even if he loses.”

“So Trump needs to be aggressive and go for the decisive victory,” Walsh added. “He can’t just coast and let this thing be boring and uneventful. If that happens, Biden wins and Trump would have been better off not debating. I think Trump will win, but those are the stakes.”
