President Joe Biden’s campaign co-chair Veronica Escobar claimed during a Tuesday interview that voters who believe they were better off under former President Donald Trump had “amnesia.”

Escobar spoke with CNN’s Manu Raja ahead of Thursday’s debate between Biden and Trump, and she said that it concerned her that when Biden and other campaign surrogates laid out a list of the things he has accomplished in office, it still did not seem to be resonating with voters.

Raju began by noting the concern, saying that Biden could lay out “a number of his achievements” that he believes he’s accomplished since taking office, but it would not matter if it was “really not resonating with voters.”

“Do you have concerns if he simply lays out a laundry list of things he believes he has achieved in office that that may not land well given that a lot of voters are not happy with the job that he’s done in office?” Raju asked.

“I think the president can do both things at the same time,” Escobar replied, saying that she believed it was important to stress how much had been done over the last three years, but also to make sure that the voters were on board.

“I think it is really important for the American people to remember where we were four years ago,” Escobar continued. “Where we couldn’t be together, a president, Donald Trump, telling us to inject disinfectant, calling COVID a hoax, historic job losses, a catastrophic economy, and President Biden inherited that mess.”

Escobar went on to claim that she was aware there was still “work to be done,” but argued that Biden had already made great strides in the right direction and the American people should “let President Biden finish the job.”

Raju then brought up recent polls that show a majority of Americans believe that “Trump did a better job in office than Biden,” and asked whether that concerned her.

“It does,” she said. “I think that people have amnesia.”
