President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign is reaching out to voters who sided with one of former President Donald Trump’s top Republican primary opponents.

On Friday, the Biden campaign released an ad targeting Nikki Haley supporters, spending $1 million on the effort to court voters who appear disillusioned by another Trump nomination, The Washington Post reported. Haley was the last of Trump’s GOP opponents to drop out of the race when she ended her campaign earlier this month, and she has not endorsed the former president.

“If you voted for Nikki Haley, Donald Trump doesn’t want your vote,” the Biden campaign ad says. “Save America. Join us.”

The ad also plays clips of Trump commenting on Haley, such as him calling her “birdbrain,” and saying she “has made an unholy alliance with RINOs [and] never-Trumpers.”

The ad will run for three weeks across digital platforms in battleground states, campaign officials said, according to the Post. Seven states are considered the top battleground races in the 2024 election, according to RealClearPolitics. As of Saturday morning, Trump leads Biden in all seven states, per the RCP average of polling data.

During the GOP primary race, Haley — whom Trump tapped to serve as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. during his administration — became critical of her former boss, saying he is responsible for “chaos” and failure within the Republican Party. In her speech announcing her campaign suspension, Haley said Trump has work to do to “earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him.”

“And I hope he does that,” Haley added. “At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away. And our conservative cause badly needs more people. This is now his time for choosing.”

After Haley dropped out of the presidential race, Trump reached out a hand to Haley voters, writing in a social media post that he would “like to invite all of the Haley supporters to join the greatest movement in the history of our Nation.” That invite came after the former president warned in January that “Anybody that makes a ‘Contribution’ to Birdbrain, from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp.”

During her campaign, Haley received thousands of donations from people who supported Biden in 2020, POLITICO reported.  Trump easily secured the nomination over Haley, who has won just 94 delegates compared to Trump’s 1,686. Candidates had to reach 1,215 delegates to win the Republican nomination, a threshold Trump crossed on March 12.
