WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump will sign a presidential memorandum targeting ActBlue for potentially unlawful activities, a White House document shared with The Daily Wire shows.
The president’s order directs the Justice Department to crack down on illegal “straw donor” and foreign contributions in United States elections, the document said, and instructs Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate allegations regarding online fundraising platforms that make “straw” or “dummy” contributions or foreign contributions to political candidates or committees. Bondi will report the results of her investigation to President Trump.
The memorandum will specifically mention a congressional investigation showing “significant fraud schemes” using ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s major donation platform, as well as hundreds of ActBlue donations from foreign IP addresses using prepaid cards during the 2024 election cycle, “despite it being illegal for foreign nationals to contribute to U.S. elections.”
The move is aimed at addressing the actions of “malign actors and foreign nationals” who want to illegally influence American elections,” the White House said, alleging that recently uncovered evidence points to online fundraising platforms being used to “launder excessive and prohibited contributions to political candidates and committees.”
ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace Jones had warned of the coming move in an email to “trusted friends of ActBlue,” writing in a Wednesday letter obtained by Punchbowl “that the Trump administration was going to issue an Executive Order (EO) aimed at ActBlue,” and assuring recipients that “Our team sprung into action and made every preparation from a legal and communications perspective.”
“We are ready for whatever is next from the Far Right,” she wrote, adding that “we feel the weight of democracy resting on our shoulders.”
