Actress Natasha Lyonne is getting a lot of feedback for comments she made about 12-year-old girls having access to abortion.

The 45-year-old actress, who is best known for her role on the Netflix drama “Orange is the New Black,” made the comments while attending The Independent Spirit Awards over the weekend.

The rambling speech also included jabs at President Trump. “Wow, what a guy! Yes well when the orange drips, I uh, you know … it’s very weird to have like a showbiz guy in charge … is surreal,” Lyonne said from the red carpet last weekend in response to Trump taking office.

She went on, “Because uh, well, I’m actually pretty horrified by how strategic and effective this whole thing has been. And uh, I think there is a real disconnect in all the noise around like the individuals that are gonna really be taking the hits on an individual, like a human basis, in the trans community, gay community, black community, you know, uh, women …”

“I hate, uh, violence so much,” the actress added. “And I just think it’s, it’s uh, … that’s the part of it. Like, this country’s always had, you know, insanity, but to have a death toll and to be willing to do that, is, uh, a pill too great for me to swallow,” she went on.

“Like beyond sort of the sort of dialectic around oligarchs and whatever else, it’s … like, when I think of the kids, like the 12-year-old girl that can’t get an abortion or something, or, you know, that’s what really, like, rips me apart. That I, uh … so. But you know. ‘Uh, this is America.’ To quote Childish Gambino, Donald Glover” she said. “So uh … it’s nothing we didn’t know, but uh, always a horror to see up front uh, I don’t know.

Commenters on X questioned Lyonne’s speech, saying it made no sense and mentioned that if a 12-year-old was pregnant, it would be proof of some type of abuse.

“Maybe we should focus more on who is getting these 12 [year-olds] pregnant. Just a thought,” one person replied

“Her choice of words would be hilarious if not so disgusting and tragic,” another commenter echoed

“Hollywood telling on itself,” another person wrote.

The actress later posted on social media trying to clarify her statements, noting that the rant was “not my eloquent best.” Lyonne scolded everyone for making fun of her and the “unmitigated glee of mob mentality.”

“As an empath, I struggle to find the words to articulate my heartbreak for the rising toll of individual human beings presently tangled in this risky, political power play,” she wrote as part of a lengthy, rambling post on X.
