German officials said that the man suspected of carrying out what is believed to be a terrorist attack on a Christmas market on Friday night was from Saudi Arabia.

“It was a doctor from Saudi Arabia, who’s been in Germany since 2006,” said Saxony-Anhalt state premier Reiner Haseloff.

Germany’s Bild newspaper said that the suspect drove through nearly 400 yards through a Christmas market in Magdeburg.

The suspect was allegedly not on German law enforcement’s radar as an Islamic extremist prior to the attack, Bild said.

German media reported that up to 80 people were injured and at least 11 were killed during the gruesome attack, which was caught on video.

A separate Christmas market in Erfurt was evacuated afterward as a precautionary measure.
