Anyone who might be anticipating a clash between the White House press corps and Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is likely going to have to wait at least a few days while Biden travels to Angola.
As soon as the news broke that President Joe Biden had issued a blanket pardon for his embattled son, Hunter Biden — who has been convicted on several felony charges and was still awaiting sentencing — many predicted an inevitable dust-up between reporters and Jean-Pierre, primarily because the latter has repeatedly insisted that Biden had no intention of issuing such a pardon.

Curtis Houck posted video from a regular White House briefing that took place just one month prior, showing Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asking Jean-Pierre about a potential pardon for Hunter — and as she had in the past, the press secretary insisted that there was no such pardon coming.

When someone asked whether Jean-Pierre was “dreading” the inevitable flood of questions, Heinrich pointed out the fact that there would be no briefing at all — and therefore no televised questions — for at least a few days.
“There won’t be any — no press briefing for the next few days. Biden issued the pardon before jetting to Angola late tonight. KJP will take questions on Air Force 1 en route, but off-camera …” Heinrich posted.

Jean-Pierre has repeated her claim that Biden would not issue a pardon for his son on several occasions.

Just days after President-elect Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, Jean-Pierre repeated her claim.
Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Joe Biden pardoning Hunter on November 7 following Trump’s victory.
Her response: “We’ve been asked that question multiple times. Our answer stands, which is no.” pic.twitter.com/DKfkhGsxxg

Biden became the first president to issue a pardon for his own child on Sunday. Hunter Biden previously made history when he became the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a felony.
