The cohosts of ABC’s “The View” worked themselves into a full-blown panic during Wednesday’s broadcast over President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for Defense Secretary, decorated Army veteran Pete Hegseth.
Cohost Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion — which nearly failed to get off the ground when she struggled to even pronounce Hegseth’s name. Once she had managed that, she mocked Hegseth — an Ivy League educated two-time Bronze Star recipient who earned a Combat Infantryman Badge — because he also happened to be a regular host on “Fox & Friends: Weekend.”
“The cohost of ‘Fox & Friends: Weekend’ — not even, like, regular,” she crowed. Without mentioning Hegseth’s military career at all, Goldberg just said that the choice had ruffled feathers on both sides of the political aisle.

Goldberg followed that up by claiming that Hegseth — who served tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay, and achieved the rank of Major — “clearly does not know anything about the military.”
Joy Behar joked that by that logic, being a host of “The View” qualified her to be the Ambassador to Italy.

Sara Haines falsely claims Hegseth only “served for five or six years” and was middle — midranking.
He served for 20 years and achieved the rank of Major.
She and Alyssa Farah Griffin whine that he has no experience as a bureaucrat. pic.twitter.com/3toAd7UiOn— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) November 13, 2024
Cohost Sara Haines jumped in then, claiming that Hegseth had served for just a handful of years (actually 20) and had reached “middle” rank (he was a Major). She went on to complain that he had no experience dealing with bureaucrats. Alyssa Farah Griffin doubled down on Haines’ position.

Of course, staunchly racist Sunny Hostin suggests Hegseth is a racist and sexist:
“He also said, ‘first of all you’ve got to fire the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, which happens to be general Charles Brown Jr, a black man.”
“I think we’re seeing misogyny play out.” pic.twitter.com/504uGNjlth— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) November 13, 2024
Cohost Sunny Hostin rounded out the discussion, suggesting that Hegseth is also a “racist” because he is on record saying that top brass at the Pentagon need to go and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles Brown Jr., is black.
“He also said, ‘first of all you’ve got to fire the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, which happens to be general Charles Brown Jr, a black man. I think we’re seeing misogyny play out. I think we’re seeing racism play out. We should be disgusted. We should be very, very concerned,” she complained.
