About 130 people filled 2 court rooms in anticipation of this moment. Judge Carter is an excellent judge, fair and tough. Obama's defense team had filed a motion on Friday (before the holiday) that never it made it to Carters office by time of hearing. Orly wanted to proceed to present a witness, which was denied. The Obama team knew nothing of this witness and had no opportunity to depose him.
Preceding this, there were some procedural matters to be reconciled. A couple of the Plaintiffs ceased wanting Orly's representation and had chosen another attorney...so the manner in which this transfer was done came under question. Orly claimed that she and the other attorney had irreconcilible philosophic differences on how to handle this case, and apparently they have much tension between them. Judge Carter suggested they try and 'get along', because he was trying to "teach" them: "if you think you want to go your separate ways prosecuting, then this thing can drag out for years. I would rather adjoin your cases and we can wrap this thing up in a few weeks. It serves the American people and President Obama each, to get this concluded as expeditiously as possible". Orly remained concern that the other attorneys case could taint hers. Carter assured her that he was bright enough to make a ruling on the 'good parts', that she need not worry!
In my opinion, Carter was very supportive, patient, and sympathetic to Orly. (she does not see it this way, but I won't make a comment on that). Procedural errors has been her bane all along. This is highly complex and she is a relatively new attorney. Rather than admonish her for procedural errors, he actually helped her; laid the entire agenda out step-by-step for both sides to adhere to, and fast-tracked the entire process. Hearing is re-scheduled for Oct 5th.
MSM was not there. A Research Analyst for Fox News was there, as well as 2 independent documentary film crews. Orly, her start witness, several other people and myself were all interviewed on camera. I have not seen any release as yet though. (of any of us)
Sine the Federal Court House is in downtown Santa Ana, it exists in the heart of a strong Latino community. While milling about outside with the film crews, had the opportunity to speak to 4-5 passerby Latinos whom had all voted for Obama. Each one of them now regret their vote!. Certainly this is a very small sampling, but I just love hearing news like that!
It was hot! (had to walk for what like seemed forever in a suit and new dress shoes that were killing my feet)! We had to wait outside the courtrooms for 2 hours before being seated. The hearing never took place! I was hungry, grumpy, hot, tired, with achey feet....it was all good! :)
